I got back a few days ago from my father’s funeral. I’m still trying to catch up on my sleep, but I was so glad I could fly out and say my goodbyes to my dad and be with my family during this time of mourning. Thank you to everyone for your sweet comments, your prayers and your support. They have meant the world to me.
With Father’s Day quickly approaching, I had a few products I’ve come across lately that would make great gifts for the men in your life, whether they be your husband/father/son/friend or just some random guy you feel like giving a gift to.
If you are like me and lean toward the practical, then one product that I absolutely fell in love with and recommend for any man in your life who does yard work is the Nut Wizard tool. #Awesome!
Back in the day, we lived on a piece of property that was surrounded by black walnut trees. Every fall our family would go out for the Great Walnut Clean-up. I had to PAY my children to get them to come anywhere near a black walnut. We haven’t had black walnuts trees since we left that home until we moved into our new house. This year when I got the tool, my kids were fighting over who got to clean up the walnuts. #WillWondersNeverCease
It also did a great job picking up all the little apples that fell off our trees so I could feed them to my chickens. It’s one of the greatest tools ever invented. If you have a “Dr. Who” fan/technology lover/geek in your home one gadget gift they might enjoy is the Sonic Screwdriver Programmable TV Remote.
This fun gadget is a little hefty in price ($99.95 – $199.95) depending on which version you buy. My son saved up and bought this device. He controls his iPod Home, Xbox and TV with this gadget with just a few flicks of his wrist. It has 13 gestures and 3 memory banks, which can store up to 39 remote control codes. It’s a fun little device. You can buy this gadget at ThinkGeek, which is actually a great site for the geek in your life.
Another fun techy tool is the Parrot AR Drone 2.0.
Hubs brought one home from work to learn how to use for an event he was filming. He works in newspapers and this drone takes HD photos and videos. It works with your smart phone and it’s pretty awesome. The drone is actually more money than I would spend on a gift for someone, ($299) but if you have a need for aerial photos, it’s pretty fun and does a great job.
If you are looking for a health/fitness gift for your guy, check out the Jawbone UP bracelet. Priced at $129.99, this bracelet helps you track how you move, eat and sleep. I bought mine after I read about it on Miss Mustard Seed. I’d bought a pedometer earlier in the year, but it had to be in a certain position on your body and I could never get that to work all the time since I don’t have pockets in all my clothes. Since I have an arm and I’ve yet to forget to put on my arm in the morning, I thought the bracelet was a better option.
According to my bracelet, I slept an average of 6 hours and 12 minutes this last week. Not good, but I was travelling and grieving the loss of my father, so it’s to be expected that my sleep was off. I have learned that if I get less than 4 hours of deep sleep a night, I’m not a fun person to be around. If I get 4 hours or more of deep sleep, even if I have a short night or interrupted sleep, I can usually function fairly well.
The metal end of the bracelet comes off and there is a plug that fits into the headphone jack on your phone. Your data is uploaded to your smart phone to help you track your sleep and your movement. I’ve set a reminder on my bracelet to vibrate for every 45 minutes that I am stationary. It reminds me to get up and move. That sounds silly to some of you, but for people tied to a desk with work, that reminder is helpful.
Since getting the bracelet last month, I’ve been more focused on simply tracking my information. I’m now ready to move into using the information to help me set goals and try to improve my numbers each day. While this is a product I have been using and not any of my boys, my brother was very interested in it and was trying to convince his wife to get one for him while we were together this last week. It’s a great product for anyone wanting to improve their health.
Finally, if you have a teenage or young adult son, one gift idea for him might be a book I just came across by Tim Hoch, a lawyer from Forth Worth, Texas. Hoch wrote the book for his son’s high school graduation.
It’s written in two parts. The first is simply the rules. They are short and sweet and perfect for the Twitter generation.
In the second half of the book, Hoch explains the back story behind each rule. Some are serious rules and some are more playful but each rule reminds young men to be strong in their convictions and humble in life. It’s a good book to pick up. At $7.96 it’s an affordable gift.
I hope this gives you some ideas for the men in your life. I’ve hit a variety of price points. While I love being frugal and saving money where I can, I also think that some products are so good they are worth the money. All of these products featured here are ones I have used and can personally recommend.
